No. Known doesn’t offer separate, siloed assessments to pick between. Dr Murray designs one holistic assessment around your child, deciding which areas to investigate and which test batteries to use based on the evidence and what she sees. Sometimes that means focusing on a single area; often it means carefully exploring several at once.
We offer a comprehensive range of evidence-based developmental assessments for children and adolescents between the ages of 4 and 18 years.
Assessments are conducted in person at our rooms in Deakin, in Canberra’s inner south.
Each assessment is a careful information-gathering process to determine whether a child meets the diagnostic criteria for a developmental condition. It typically includes:
- Questionnaires completed by parents and teachers
- A clinical interview with parents (around 1–2 hours)
- Direct assessment with your child (around 2–3 hours)
- Where it helps, a classroom observation at your child’s school
- A written report with background, a summary of findings, and practical strategies for home and school
Every child is different, so each assessment varies accordingly. Standardised instruments we commonly draw on include:
- The Conners (Conners-4)
- Adaptive Behaviour Assessment System (ABAS-III)
- Social Responsiveness Scale (SRS-2)
- Wechsler Preschool & Primary Scale of Intelligence (WPPSI-IV)
- Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children (WISC-V)
- Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale (WAIS-IV)
- Wechsler Individual Achievement Test (WIAT-III)
- Autism Diagnostic Interview (ADI-R)
- Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule (ADOS)
Every assessment is slightly different, so the cost varies accordingly. Assessments typically fall between $3,000 and $4,000. A clear cost will always be provided to you before the assessment process begins.
Referrals can come from paediatricians, psychiatrists, general practitioners, school psychologists, allied health professionals, or from parents themselves. Medicare rebates can only be applied if the referral comes directly from a paediatrician or psychiatrist.
Some private health insurers may help cover the cost of a psychological assessment, depending on your level of cover. Medicare rebates may also be available for some assessment types, but only when the referral comes directly from a paediatrician or psychiatrist.
Yes, for families we have assessed, and where it’s the right fit. Dr Murray offers therapeutic support, and school support such as classroom observations and guidance for teachers. Because she provides these personally, availability is genuinely limited, so they aren’t something we can promise to everyone. We’ll talk through whether they suit your child as part of, or following, their assessment.
